BrowserAid.Startium is a member of a family of Toolbar spyware programs created by CASH Toolbar.  It first appeared in January of 2003.  It has to be manually installed on the computer by the user to infect it.  To do this, it is disguised as a browsing assistant tool.

BrowserAid.Startium has two spyware functions.  It is a Trojan Downloader and a Browser Hijacker.  As spyware, it tracks your browsing habits by taking snapshots of the web pages you’re on and logs your keystrokes.  It does this presumably to deliver targeted advertisements, but it can collect credit card and login information by these actions.

As a Downloader, BrowserAid.Startium can download files on your computer, possibly malicious ones.  As a Browser Hijacker, it can reset your home page to one of its vendor’s choosing and redirect your browser to CASH Toolbar’s affiliate web pages.

    I guess my children downloaded something on the internet, because I don’t remember doing that. I tried to get rid of BrowserAid.Startium alone, but it was impossible. I’m not that good at computers so I searched on the internet something. I found many programs that didn’t help. Finally I found SpyZooka, a program that removed the virus and seems to be real good. I hope to protect me in the future.
