Hardly a Protection Center: pcprotectioncenter2008

There are a host of false antispyware programs out there on the Internet. Collectively, they are known as rogue anti-spyware. Their intent is to trick you into thinking you have a spyware infection, offer their product as a solution, and scam you out of your money. Of course, once you get so far as them tricking you into thinking you have an infection, they have made sure that you actually do at that point. Pcprotectioncenter2008 is one such program.

I’m not one to make a morality call on what you do with your time on the Internet. I’m not your parent, but I will say that there are certain types of Internet activity that are not only considered to be distasteful, but they actually carry a risk of transmitting malware to your computer. Typically, if you view pornographic content, do peer to peer file sharing, or download pirated software, you are in a high risk category of getting infected with malware. Such activity is how people tend to encounter this rogue anti-spyware program.

Unsolicited, it will install a Trojan called Zlob Downloader. This will install the malware on your computer, and tell you that you have a spyware infection; a huge one. What it really does is it counts your temporary files and calls them spyware. The next thing it will do is tell you that you need to download its spyware removal program and demand your credit card information to do so. A major irritation of this situation is that it won’t seem to let you get away from this screen until you actually go along with this scam. Do not, absolutely do not give them your credit card information! It is a scam, it will take your money and it won’t fix the problem. There is another way out of this situation: Push the power button on your computer and turn it off.

Okay, now that that’s done what now? That action only got you out of the hostage situation of having to give up your credit card information to get released from the warning screen. You are now infected with spyware. You have pop ups, and your computer’s running like it’s about to fall apart. It’s running slowly, programs and web pages are taking forever to load, and they may not even work right. Even worse, you may wind up getting pulled back to the hostage warning screen. The warning screen is right about one thing: You need to clean up this infection, even though you may not have needed to clean things up before.

It is because of programs like this that I created SpyZooka. The manufacturers of malware are tireless and relentless in their pursuit of new ways to infect your computer. Most anti-spyware programs just can’t keep up. So we designed the SpyZooka system to have a robot scouring the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, constantly looking for new spyware definitions to catch them before they catch you. This is how we support our 100% removal guarantee, and with the SpyGuard program, you may never even see rogue anti-spyware.
