SearchBoss is a spyware program disguised as a toolbar add-on for your browser. It was first discovered on February 1 of 2004. It is distributed by the Rawhide Search Solutions company and is distributed through the website http://www.searchboss.com/.
SearchBoss is spyware for two reasons. One is that it searches your temporary Internet files and logs your browsing sessions. It then uploads this information to a remote server to deliver targeted advertising.
The other reason is that it downloads arbitrary files to your computer. These could be updates to SearchBoss, but they may also be other spyware or adware programs; maybe even viruses and worms.
Supposedly, SearchBoss offers pop-up blocking and the ability to search from anywhere on the Internet. These features are redundant, since they are now standard features of nearly every browser you can get. In fact, SearchBoss displays pop-up ads for its partners and affiliates.
The activity of SearchBoss can seriously slow down your computer’s performance. It can also potentially cause your Internet browser to crash. Any supposed benefits it offers are not worth compromising the functionality of your computer.
